Alabama orders 'chemical castration' of some child molesters

Jun 17, 2019

MONTGOMERY, Ala. — Some Alabama sex offenders who abuse young children will have to undergo "chemical castration" while on parole, under a new law, but the requirement has prompted legal concerns and appears to be rarely used in some states that allow it. The procedure uses medications that block testosterone production in order to decrease sex drive. The Alabama law says sex offenders whose crimes involved children between ages 7 and 13 must receive the medication before being released from prison on parole. Alabama doesn't allow parole for sex crimes involving children 6 and under. After Gov. Kay Ivey's office...

Former student who reported rape says college betrayed her

Jun 17, 2019

CHARLESTON, W.Va. — The warnings came in text messages from her friends: He's outside the dorm. He's at the student center. He's at Starbucks. Months later, she left the school altogether. "Every time I saw him, it was horrible for me,"...

LOS ANGELES — O.J. Simpson launched a Twitter account with a video post in which the former football star said he's got a "little gettin' even to do." Simpson confirmed the new account to The Associated Press on Saturday, saying in a phone interview while on a Las Vegas golf course that it "will be a lot of fun." "I've got some things to straighten out," he said. He did not elaborate before he said he had to go and ended the call. Simpson has generally kept a low profile since his release from prison in October 2017 for robbery...

Jun 17, 2019

SAN FRANCISCO — Prosecutors will decide whether to charge Toronto Raptors President Masai Ujiri with misdemeanor battery after he was accused of shoving and hitting a sheriff's deputy in the face while trying to join his team on the court to celebrate their first NBA championship. He said a report will be forwarded prosecutors. After the game Thursday night in Oakland against the Golden State Warriors, Ujiri tried to...
